Training Courses Now Available

The UAMS Library offers FREE classes to health care professionals for the following National Library of Medicine (NLM) products.

  • PubMed [MEDLINE database]
  • Consumer Health Resources @ NLM

Training is available to any health care professional in Arkansas. Special on-site group classes may be arranged by calling the number below.

Class Descriptions:

CME Credit for physicians is available for any of these classes.

PubMed:

Introduction to PubMed [1 hour] covers the basics of a PubMed search including the use of Limits, Related Articles feature, Display, Print, Save and Clinical Queries functions.

Introduction to PubMed “plus” [2 hours] covers how to use Basic and Advanced Search Modes, author/title searching, retrieval options, and correct use of MeSH to create a focused search strategy in the MEDLINE database. This class also teaches health care professionals how to use specialized PubMed features such as Related Articles, Clinical Queries, Journal Browser and Citation Matcher. Retrieval of full text via publishers’ web sites and Loansome Doc are also covered.

Consumer Health Resources @ NLM:

Introduction to Consumer Health Resources @ NLM [1 hour] covers the basics of a review of the consumer health environment and the public’s access to information. The class concentrates on the use of MEDLINEplus for disease/condition and drug information, ClinicalTrials.gov, and NLM’s Gateway.

Introduction to Consumer Health Resources @ NLM [1.5 hours] covers the basics of the one hour class above. It also includes hands-on practice for each resource.
