Training Courses Now Available

The UAMS Library offers FREE classes to health care professionals for the following National Library of Medicine (NLM) products:

  • PubMed Basics [MEDLINE database]
  • Medical Websites for Nurses
  • Patient Education Resources from the National Library of Medicine

Training is available to any health care professional in Arkansas. Special on-site group classes may be arranged by calling the number below.

Class Descriptions: CNE Credit for nurses is available for any of these classes.

PubMed Basics [1 hour] This class covers the basics of a PubMed search including the use of Limits, Related Articles feature, Display, Print, Save and Clinical Queries functions.

Medical Websites for Nurses [1 hour] This activity will enable nurses to enhance their research and clinical assessment skills/abilities by using Internet search knowledge to access quality, reliable healthcare specific, patient education specific, and nursing specific resources. Websites utilized for this class include PubMed, Medscape Nurses, National Institute of Nursing Research, MedlinePlus, Mayo Clinic, and Lab Tests Online.

Patient Education Resources from the National Library of Medicine [1 hour] This activity will enable nurses to enhance their patient education by utilizing free online products from the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health to provide quality resources to their patients. The focus is on patient education material found in MedlinePlus, NIHSeniorHealth, AIDSinfo, and Genetics Home Reference.

Accreditation Statement The Texas Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This activity meets Type I criteria for mandatory continuing education requirements toward relicensure as established by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.

CNE accreditation by the Texas Nurses Association is recognized by all U.S. states except California, Florida, and Iowa.
