Visiting the Library - Library Hours and Holiday Schedule

Residents with a current UAMS ID badge can access the library 24/7.  You can use your UAMS ID Badge for after-hours access to the 1st floor reference area and lounge. After-hours access to other areas of the library (journal stacks, etc.) can be arranged by contacting campus police (686-7777).

Computing and Wireless Access

Computers with Internet, email, and Microsoft Office programs are available on the 1st - 3rd floors of the Library

Laptops, PDAs, and cell phones with Wi-Fi network connectivity can access the Internet throughout the Library.

  • Anyone with a wireless enabled device can connect to the Internet via the UAMS Aruba wireless network by entering his or her email address and signing in as 'Guest'.
  • Students must contact the HELP desk (686-8555) to configure their wireless enabled devices before connecting to a UAMS network.
  • Need assistance with login names and password? Call the Help Desk at 686–8555.

Electronic Resources, Databases, Journals, Clinical Resources and Books

Many databases are available for searching the journal literature, evidence-based medicine literature, medical images, textbooks, clinical guidelines, and more.

Note: Off-campus availability to most of these resources is available using your UAMS ID and password.

Free literature searching and research consultations are available.

Quiet and Group Study Areas

  • Group study areas, vending machines, current newspapers - 1st floor
  • Carrels for independent study - 2nd and 3rd floors
  • Study rooms for group work - 2nd and 3rd floor on the West side of the building (first come first serve basis). Each room contains a white board and enough space for a small group. Rooms for larger groups or rooms with an Internet connection and projector are available.

Printing and Photocopying

A reusable copy card is available for purchase at the Circulation desk on the 1st floor of the library, for $1 (includes 5 copies). A $1 and $5 bill changer is also available.

  • Photocopying - $.10/page
  • Computer Printing - $.10/page
  • Computer Color Printing - $.20/page

Mobile Device Services

Resources such as Lexi-Comp and E-ssentioal Evidence Plus are available for PDAs and other handheld devices. Please visit the Mobile Device Support page for details.

Laptop Lending

Laptops are available for check-out for 2 hours, in-library use only. Request a laptop at the Circulation Desk, 1st floor. A UAMS ID badge is required for check-out.

Borrowing Materials

Books on the 3rd floor are searchable in the online catalog and available for circulation. Books circulate for two weeks and may be renewed twice. Fines for overdue books are $1.00 per day.

Teaching Resource Center

Workstations for digital video editing, scanning and digital image editing, web development, desktop publishing and specialized software including Impatica, Adobe Acrobat Professional, and Remark optical-mark-recognition software. Come by and let us show you what is available! We can help you get started and assist you with your project.

The Teaching Resource Center is located on the third floor of the Library and is available to UAMS faculty and their staff during the hours the Library is open. No appointment is necessary to use this room.

These libraries can guide you to a local Resource Library offering document delivery and other library services to Health Care Professionals. To find your Regional Medical Library: call 1-800-338-7657 from a telephone in your new locale. This number will check the area code from which you are calling and automatically direct your call to the proper Regional Library.
