Vending Machines and Food in the Library

The Library has begun allowing food in the Library. An area on the 1st level, currently the Quiet Room, is being converted into a mini lounge with vending machines for coffee, bottled drinks, and snacks. Healthy choices for drinks and snacks are planned. Currently, the Library is awaiting the vending machines’ arrival.

Café type tables and chairs are being selected for that area. ‘Big time’ eating should take place in the lounge area; however, food may be eaten throughout the Library in study rooms, carrels, and other tables.

Please note: Eating will not be allowed at the computer workstations! There are more appropriate settings around the Library where there are good tables for eating. There are a few tables in the Library Learning Resource Center (LRC) where eating will be allowed.

Pizzas or Chinese food and such can be delivered to the front lobby outside the Library. The Library will not use the PA system to announce deliveries, and the delivery people will not be allowed to search for their customers as this could lead to pizza hijacking! People placing orders must arrange for delivery and pickup in the lobby.

The Library will provide large waste baskets for trash, paper towels to clean up spills, and handi-wipes for hand cleaning. Please let Library staff know if a spill needs additional attention! It is up to individuals to take care of their trash and to help keep the Library environment clean, sanitary, and pleasant.

The Library staff ask that our Library users remember to leave an area in good condition. Explicitly, Library staff should not be expected to pick up after others. We think we can do our part to provide a nice environment if you’ll help us by taking care of the Library with us.

There will be more renovations and changes, and the Library may be in disarray from time to time. We’ll try to keep the areas ready for use as much as possible.

Special thanks go to Dr. Deborah Fiser and the College of Medicine administration for funding of this renovation. Also, thanks go to the students who have specifically asked through survey responses and directly that the Library provide access to drinks and snacks, and better places to relax and study. And not least, thanks go to the Library staff willing to undertake this major change in hopes of improving the Library environment for students and others as well.
