March/April 2006: Issue 129 UAMS Library Liaison Program Letter From the Library Director We would like to introduce the new Library Liaison Program created to foster communication between the Library and UAMS education, research, clinical, and outreach programs. The Librarian Liaison Program matches a librarian (or, in some cases, two librarians) with a college, department, or Institute of Excellence so that the liaison librarian can develop a relationship with the program and concentrate on the particular needs of the program (e.g.,College of Nursing, COM Department of Radiology, Institute on Aging). In some cases, a librarian will act as a liaison to a committee or group (e.g., Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Antenatal and Neonatal Guidelines, Education and Learning System (ANGELS), and UAMS Teaching with Technology Committee). As Library resources and services grow and change, the Liaison Program will keep our faculty, students, and staff up-to-date so that they can use Library resources most effectively and expeditiously. The Library liaisons are interested in how the Library can better serve information needs of the programs. In addition to providing updates on new resources and services, the Library liaisons can arrange the following services:
Several librarians have specialized expertise in searching, evidence-based medicine, open access publishing, copyright issues, and other topics. The Library liaisons will call on these librarians when their expertise is requested for training sessions or presentations. The Library has begun contacting colleges, departments, institutes and others about setting up a liaison program with their unit. The following liaisons are in place:
We would like to invite interested campus programs, researchers, and other interested groups at UAMS to contact us to discuss these service opportunities, and help us develop and better serve your information and technology needs. The Library Liaison webpage can be found at http://www.library.uams.edu/AboutLib/Liaison.aspx.
