The View from the VA

The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) Library has a number of online resources available to healthcare practitioners on the VHA Intranet.  Located in CPRS (the VA medical record system) under TOOLS under the heading Vlibrary or on the Library Website at http://vaww.learnres.little-rock.med.va.gov/library.asp  is a virtual library of knowledge based resources (this link is accessible to VHA Intranet users only). 

The following virtual resources are available

  • Ebsco ATOZ Full Text Journal Database is a new database which provides CAVHS Health Sciences Library patrons with a single, comprehensive online list of full text titles to which they have access. With A-to-Z, users can quickly locate and link to journals of interest.
  • Biomedical Reference Collection. Provides access to 200 full text journals covering such disciplines as clinical medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences.  Medline. The National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE file.
  • CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature). This is the complete CINAHL database with full text/page image coverage for 276 journals from 1987 to the present. Expanded Nursing & Allied Health Databases. This database contains 200 full text journals covering the areas of nursing, biomedicine, health sciences, consumer health, and allied health disciplines.
  • Business Source Corporate:  The world's largest, English-language, full text, periodical, business database provides corporations with nearly 3,000 quality magazines and journals, offering invaluable information on virtually every aspect of business.
  • Psychology and Behavioral Sciences full-text collection Provides access to 500 fulltext journals. Psycinfo Provides indexing and abstracts for over one million articles in 1,500 journals from over 50 countries. This database, provided by the American Psychological Association, also includes abstracts for dissertations, books and book chapters ranging in date from 1887 to the present.
  • Cochrane Library  includes: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews contains full text articles, as well as protocols focusing on the effects of healthcare. The Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE) includes abstracts of published systematic reviews on the effects of health care from around the world.
  • CAVHS  Pub Med Link   We also have our own Pub Med (Medline) link on our home page which allows access to the Full text articles from the online databases using the Pub Med interface.
  • MD Consult.  MD Consult includes full text journals and books..
  • Stat-Ref. Complete full text medical reference books including  AHFS, USPDI,  and Harrison’s.
  • New England Journal Of Medicine: Online full text of NEJM.
  • UpToDate Online:  Full-text clinical resource providing instantaneous, evidence-based answers to the most commonly asked questions in clinical practice
  • Krames On-Demand (KOD) is a web-based patient education program of over 1,800 single-topic HealthSheets and over 1,800 Drug Information Sheets
  • Quality Management & JCAHO Resources: Includes JCAHO manuals, JCAHO journals, Healthcare Benchmark & Quality Improvement, & Performance Advisor.
  • Micromedex is also in CPRS located under TOOLS under the heading of MICROMEDEX, the databases include drug information, toxicology, drug interactions, dosing, and a CareNotes database of patient education handouts.
