Observed PDF Printing Problem: We have been having reports that on occasion people are having a problem getting journal articles in a PDF file from the Internet to print. Since the problem is sporadic this makes it difficult to diagnose, and even harder to fix. Within the Library we are currently tracking reports of PDF files not printing so that we can try to find a permanent fix for the problem. In the mean time here is a work around: 1. The Client has the PDF file on the screen (in a browser/reader) and has tried to print. Printing failed. Check to make sure you have a printer installed. 2. If there is a printer attached and it still doesn’t work, go to the Adobe Toolbar and look for the icon that looks like a diskette. That is the “Save A Copy” function. Save the PDF file (identify the file title) to My Documents on the hard drive of the computer for temporary storage. 3. Go to the computers My Documents. 4. Double click on the PDF file name (the title you previously identified). Adobe Reader on the PC will open up the file. It should look exactly like the file from the Internet. 5. Now go to the Adobe Toolbar and look for the icon that looks like a printer. Click on it and it should bring up the print box. 6. Check to see that the first field contains the name of the correct printer. If that is OK, then go to the bottom of the print box screen and click on the OK button. 7. The print job will be sent to your printer. |
