UAMS Library News

Our Annual Book Sale was a great success!

Picture with books sliding away

The Library’s annual book sale on March 9th attracted students, faculty and even some book dealers.  The proceeds of the sale, $1,222.00, will be used to fund future Library purchases.  Thanks for your support of the Library!

UAMS Library GoPrint Services For
Wireless Printing

The UAMS Library is pleased to announce that we now offer printing for our wireless users. Faculty, staff and students can now print from anywhere in the UAMS Library using a wireless connection with their laptop. We have a dedicated kiosk and printer located on the first floor next to the Administration office. This is where you will release your print job and where it will print.

Instructions
You are responsible for setting up drivers and ensuring that your wireless network card is working properly. If you need assistance, please stop by the Library Information Desk for assistance.

DISCLAIMER: While these print instructions should work with most laptop configurations, we cannot guarantee that it will work with everyone's personal configuration. We will be happy to help you if you have a problem Monday - Friday 7:30am to 5:00pm.

Printing on PC's (Windows XP/2000)
If you would like to print from your laptop using our GoPrint system, you will need to do the following.

1)Go to http://goprnsrv2/printers (must use Microsoft Internet Explorer)

2)You will be prompted to log in. Log in using your UAMS Login
   (i.e.uams\yourusername or uams\yourloginidnumber)

3)This will open up the available printers. Currently, we have only one
printer available for wireless users (LibraryWirelessPrinter).

4)Click on the printer.

5)Click on Connect.

The printer will then be added to your list of printing devices and will appear as an option in your list of printers. The printer will remain there until you log off of the network.

Printing charges apply as they would when using the UAMS Library's student and public stations.

The cost for black and white printing is .10 per page. Color printing from wireless connections is not available at this time. Please use "Print Preview" before you print your jobs to make sure you don't pay for any blank pages.

Observed PDF Printing Problem:
and a working solution

We have been having reports that on occasion people are having a problem getting journal articles in a PDF file from the Internet to print.  Since the problem is sporadic this makes it difficult to diagnose, and even harder to fix.  Within the Library we are currently tracking reports of PDF files not printing so that we can try to find a permanent fix for the problem.

In the mean time here is a work around:

1. The Client has the PDF file on the screen (in a browser/reader) and has tried to print. Printing failed. Check to make sure you have a printer installed.

2. If there is a printer attached and it still doesn’t work, go to the Adobe Toolbar and look for the icon that looks like a diskette.  That is the “Save A Copy” function.  Save the PDF file (identify the file title) to My Documents on the hard drive of the computer for temporary storage.

3. Go to the computers My Documents

4. Double click on the PDF file name (the title you previously identified). Adobe Reader on the PC will open up the file.  It should look exactly like the file from the Internet.

5. Now go to the Adobe Toolbar and look for the icon that looks like a printer.  Click on it and it should bring up the print box.

6. Check to see that the first field contains the name of the correct printer.  If that is OK, then go to the bottom of the print box screen and click on the OK button.

7. The print job will be sent to your printer.
