History of Medicine Associates Lecture George L. Ackerman, M.D. , Professor Emeritus of Internal Medicine, UAMS will present the next lecture in the History of Medicine Associates series on the History of the Medical Sciences. His topic: Physician Authors. The lecture will be held Thursday, April 21, 2005 at 4 pm in Pauly Auditorium. Dr. George L. Ackerman graduated from the UA School of Medicine, in 1954. After an internship in Philadelphia, and service in the Navy Medical Corps, he returned to Arkansas. He served a residency and a traineeship at the University of Arkansas School of Medicine, and in 1961 was appointed an Instructor in Medicine at that institution. He taught, published, and served in other capacities until his retirement and acquisition of Emeritus status in 2000. He has received awards for excellence as a physician, and a teacher. He is an Inaugural Member of the UAMS College of Medicine Hall of Fame. His topic is in keeping with his deep and continuing interest in the written word and the practice of medicine.
