Recently the UAMS Library had a wonderful opportunity to represent the National Library of Medicine at the 76 th National LULAC Convention held in Little Rock, June 29 – July 1, 2005. The League of United Latin American Citizens annual convention is a huge meeting with approximately 10,000 individuals attending. Commercial exhibitors shared the large exhibit hall with a health fair, a college fair and job expo. In addition to many educational and learning opportunities, the exhibit hall was the location of many live performances by dancers and singers. The meeting provided a great venue to promote free consumer health and medical resources available to the public from the National Library of Medicine (NLM). Many of NLM’s materials are available full-text in Spanish. These included MedlinePlus (disease & conditions, drug information, and interactive tutorials), ToxTown for information on toxic chemical and environmental health risks you might encounter in everyday life, plus other NLM resources such as Household Products Database, the Genetic Home Reference, etc. Below are photos of the UAMS Reference Librarians exhibiting at LULAC.
