ACCESS TO ELECTRONIC JOURNALS, DATABASES, AND OTHER RESOURCES FROM OFF-CAMPUS UAMS faculty, staff, and students can access many of the Library’s electronic resources from off-campus. The Library uses a proxy server to allow Library users with UAMS domain accounts to log-in from off-campus so the user appears to the Library resources as if they are on campus. When selecting resources from the Library Website from off-campus, the user will be asked for their UAMS domain username and password to verify that they are a current UAMS faculty or staff member or a currently enrolled student. UAMS domain username and password The domain username is last name, first name, and usually middle initial. It is entered as a string of characters, e.g. doejohnq for John Q. Doe. The middle initial is not always part of the username. The password is initially social security number until it is changed by the user. The domain username and password is the same as the username and password for the UAMS email system and for WebCT. Problems with username and password can only be resolved by calling the IT Help Desk at (501) 686-8555. Who gets a UAMS domain username and password?
1. Students currently enrolled in UAMS Colleges are given a domain account
and are assigned a username and password shortly after registration.
Their account is deactivated when they graduate or when they are no longer
enrolled in classes. 2. Faculty members and staff in the colleges, support
units, and administration are given a UAMS domain account with username
and password when they are entered into the UAMS Office of Human Resources
database. Their account is immediately deactivated when they are no longer
employed at UAMS. 3. Colleges/departments may request that adjunct/volunteer faculty be entered into the UAMS Office of Human Resources database and given a UAMS ID Badge. This provides them with access to a UAMS domain account. (Please see Administrative Guidelines 11.3.05 for policy on UAMS ID Badge Issuance at http://www.uams.edu/adminguide/WIN11305.html. The UAMS domain account is deactivated immediately when they are no longer teaching. Adjunct/volunteer faculty should sign up with the Library in person or they may sign up with the Library through the Library webpage (www.library.uams.edu) under ‘Forms’. Signing up provides contact information so the library can provide assistance when needed. Access to electronic resources from off-campus has
been one of the most requested services of the Library. If you have any
problems accessing electronic
resources from off-campus, please call (501) 686-6734, (501) 686-5980,
or Dena Plaisted at (501) 686-6743.
