We would like to introduce you to the variety of resources that are available to UAMS faculty, staff, and students. Each month, the Library will ‘show case’ a different resource and offer a demonstration during one of the “Friday@Noon” sessions.

Featured Resource of the Month: Online Textbooks

Go to www.library.uams.edu and select ‘Electronic Reference Sources’ from the left toolbar on the Library homepage. The following resources are included:

  • STAT!Ref – Find fast, reliable answers to clinical questions. STAT!Ref quickly cross references 70,000 pages of medical text from numerous publishers. Developed by physicians, STAT!Ref is a powerful search tool that delivers relevancy ranked results instantly
  • MD Consult – 40 textbooks to choose from. Includes drug information, patient handouts, practice guidelines, and CME modules. To access these books, open the ‘Generic Edition’ of the database and then choose ‘Books’ from the left MD Consult toolbar.
  • Harrison’s Principle’s of Internal Medicine ONLINE – on-campus only. The complete text, illustrations and expanded features from the 15th edition of Harrison’s are available, including additional references, an easy drug look-up database, links to MEDLINE™® abstracts, and important information from emerging fields.

  • Books@Ovid – 12 online books which include: Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics, Kaplan and Sadock’s Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry, 5-Minute Emergency Medicine Consult, and a few more. To search Books@Ovid, select ‘Ovid Database Searching’ from the top of the Library homepage, then choose ‘Without Password’ and select “Books@Ovid” from the list of databases.
  • PubMed – 20 online books which include: Cancer Medicine, The Cell, Essentials of Glycobiology, Developmental Biology, and more. These free books are searchable and available to everyone. Logon to http://pubmed.gov and select “Books” on the top toolbar.

The Friday@Noon demonstration for Reference Textbooks will be held in ED III, room G226 at noon on Friday, May 9.
