- Reduction in supplies, printing, phone, fax,
physical plant, mail, equipment maintenance, off-site storage, etc.
- Printing of the Library's bimonthly newsletter

- Reduction in continuing education and travel
- Raise photocopy charges for UAMS personnel
to 10 cents per copy effective July 1, 2000
Collections budget
- Book budget (45% - $50,000)
- LRC software budget (25% - $8,000)

In addition to the cuts listed above, we are having
to cut a significant number of journal subscriptions for the following
reasons:
- Biomedical journal prices have been rising
10-15% a year for the past 10 years and we have not been receiving
budget increases to support the increased costs.
- We have been spending one-time special
allotments to supplement the journals budget for several years because
of the lack of budget increases. We will have a major shortfall in
the journals budget next year because of a drop in this allotment.
We already have the lowest number of journal
subscriptions of any of our "peer" institutions.
We will continue to try to preserve services and
the collections as much as possible during these difficult financial
times. If you have any input concerning the cuts we have made, please
let me know.
