Monday -Thurs 7:30 am - 12 midnight (reference desk closes at 6:00 p.m.)
Friday 7:30 am - 6:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:00 am - 6:00 p.m. (no reference staff on duty)
Sunday 2 p.m. - 12 midnight (no reference staff on duty)

Internet Access to Health Information and Biomedical Literature

A limited number of computers on the first floor of the Library are reserved for visitors looking up health information and doing biomedical research. Visitors must comply with the UAMS Library Computer Use for Visitors Policy.

Non-UAMS visitors have access to the Library’s online resources from computers in the Library. However, licensing agreements restrict access to most of the Library’s online resources from off-campus to UAMS faculty, students and staff.

Health Information for the Public

The Library has a number of resources geared specifically toward the general public.

A collection of books and other print materials is located behind the Reference Desk on the first floor of the Library. These are reference materials and cannot be checked out: Some examples are:

• Johns Hopkins Consumer Guide to Medical Tests
• Living with Life Threatening Illness (for patients and families)
• Practical Guide to Natural Medicines (American Pharmaceutical Association)
• Making Informed Medical Decisions

Examples of online resources recommended for visitors seeking health information:

• Health and Wellness Resource Center (available only at UAMS)
• Health Reference Center-Academic (available only at UAMS)
• MedlinePlus (www.medlineplus.gov - free from any location)
• Arkansas HealthLINK - Arkansas health information, support groups, facilities and events (www.arhealthlink.org - free from any location)

Checking out materials

The UAMS Library only checks books out to health professionals practicing in central Arkansas (Cleburne, Faulkner, Garland, Hot Spring, Perry, Pulaski, Saline, Van Buren, White counties); Arkansas health professionals outside the central Arkansas region are directed to contact their local AHEC Library.

Photocopying charge is $.10 /page
Computer printing charge is $.10/page
$1 and $5 bill changer is available
