Instructional Resources for Freshman Medical Students

Histo Time

Histology Time - Published by Stephen Downing, Ph.D., this program contains over 5,000 different color images of cells, tissue, and organs as seen through a light microscope. In most instances, multiple examples of a given cell, tissue, or organ are provided. Self-testing from each chapter covering the visual material is built into the program with multiple choice questions covering typical lecture material in histology. Available for both Windows and MAC computers, this resource can be accessed from the Learning Resource Center (LRC) computers, through the Citrix Access Gateway, or personal copies purchased for $12 from the Library at the Circulation Desk.

Understand Biochemistry

Understand! Biochemistry – This program covers all basic cell chemistry through enzymology, bioenergetics, metabolism, macromolecular structure, assembly and modification, the flow of genetic information, signal transduction, and molecular biology techniques in 60 different mini-courses. The CD-ROM features: over 120 original animations, over 900 original illustrations, 25 3-D macromolecular models, graphics for over 100 macromolecules, interactive self-quizzing, web links, pronunciations, and an index function. Available for both Windows and MAC computers, this resource can be accessed from the LRC computers or a CD-ROM can be checked out from the LRC.

Tank Anatomy Questions

Human Anatomy (Tank Questions) – Developed by Dr. Patrick Tank, this program is a collection of 1,000 questions on clinically-oriented human anatomy. Questions are in multiple choice and extended matching formats. Each question has an “associated” explanation which provides additional information about the material in question. The student can answer the question or click to reveal the “explanation.” The detailed performance analysis can guide the student in identifying weaknesses and suggest a course of action to strengthen weak areas. Available for both Windows and MAC computers, this resource can be accessed through the Learning Resource Center computers, through the Citrix Access Gateway, or it can be copied to a flash drive or CD-ROM for student’s personal use.

Human Anatomy Human Anatomy (Dissection) - An interactive gross anatomy program is comprised of over 6,000 images of the human body in various stages of dissection. This program has keyed references to Grant's Atlas of Anatomy, Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy, and Rohen and Yokochi's Color Atlas of Anatomy. Available for both Windows and MAC computers, this program can be accessed from the computers in the LRC, through the Citrix Access Gateway, or a CD-ROM can be checked out from the LRC.
