Technical Services Librarian OR Technical Services Specialist

The Fort Smith Public Library has an opening for a full-time Technical Services Librarian or Technical Services Specialist.  This individual works under the supervision of the FSPL library director and assistant director to provide strong and creative supervisory leadership of the FSPL’s Technical Services Department.

Duties include coordinating, supervising, and performing activities of cataloging, processing, and acquisitions for the Main Library and three neighborhood branch libraries; managing full-time and part-time technical services staff; attending seminars, conferences, workshops, and reading professional publications to stay current on software, methods, and technology in technical services; and serving as liaison between technical services and other library departments, other libraries, AMIGOS and OCLC members, and various vendors.  Other technical services duties may also be assigned.

This individual must possess a positive, friendly, customer service-oriented attitude toward staff and public.  Must be trained in the use of the OCLC system and have experience working with library automation systems.  Must have knowledge of the Dewey Decimal classification scheme, Sears Subject Headings, and AACR2.  Must have an appreciation for cataloging for the local environment.  Must be able to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.  Must be a quick learner with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.  Must be able to multitask efficiently and work cooperatively in a team environment.  

At least one year of relevant library experience is desired.  Experience with Polaris Library Systems would be a plus.

Routine work schedule is 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  One weekend rotation every 4 weeks is required.

The successful candidate for this position will have either a master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution, a master’s degree with Library Media Specialist certification, or relevant library technical services training and experience in lieu of the master’s degree.  The master’s degree is required for the Technical Services Librarian position.  Individuals without the master’s degree will fill a Technical Services Specialist position.

Head of Adult Services

Immediate Job Opening: Bookmobile Coordinator for the Mid-Arkansas Regional Library/Hot Spring County Library

The Bookmobile Coordinator should have minimum of a high school diploma. Library experience and post high school education is preferred but not required. This position is 40 hours a week (Monday through Friday – 8:00 am-5:00 pm) and includes possible quarterly bonuses and a standard benefit package that includes health insurance, a dental insurance option, retirement, and paid vacation. The Bookmobile Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the Bookmobile collection, driving the Bookmobile, and providing customer service to Bookmobile patrons. In addition, the Bookmobile Coordinator will be asked to perform misc. duties in the main library as time allows. These duties may include circulation, customer service, and shelving.
