pocket Local ActiveSync Operation for the Pocket PC:
  • Make sure the computer has Microsoft ActiveSync installed.
  • If not, download ActiveSync Software from Microsoft.
  • Connect the cable/cradle to the USB port on the computer.
  • Connect the USB cable to the PDA or place the PDA in the cradle.
  • If the PDA does not automatically turn on, press the power button to turn it on.
  • The computer will automatically try to identify drivers for the PDA and start Active Sync. (note: you may need to insert the program CD that came with the handheld for this to complete)
  • A dialog box will appear and ask what type of partnership you wish to establish with the computer, Standard or Guest.
  • Select the GUEST partnership to complete the connection and start the sync process.
  • Open the web browser (usually Internet Explorer) to the URL where you want to download resources for your Pocket PC. (note: a good place to start is the Mobile Device Resources web page located at the Library web site.
  • Follow the instructions listed for downloading and installing programs from the web site.
  • The programs and/or databases will be transferred to the PDA during this process. You may notice screen changes and progress bars on your handheld. Some programs will give you the option to install all or some of the files to an expansion card. You will need to make sure this option is selected before completing the installation.
  • After the install process is finished, open the program on your handheld to make sure all files were successfully transferred and it functions normally.
