College of Public Health

Dedicated in 2004, the UAMS College of Public Health building was funded mostly from the state’s lawsuit settlement with the tobacco industry. In August 2005, the college was named for the late Fay W. Boozman, M.D., who led what was then the Arkansas Department of Health from 1998 until his death March 19, 2005.

As director of the department, Boozman championed public health efforts that seek to change attitudes and promote healthier lifestyles statewide. The UAMS alumnus also played a key role in steering millions of dollars from the 1998 tobacco industry legal settlement to health-related causes, including the College of Public Health.

The building includes classroom space and offices. The building also is home to the UAMS Fitness Center.

Completed in 2004, the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health added 119,386 square feet to the 43,780 square foot building formerly called Education Building III. Both buildings combined provided 163,166 square feet for education.
